My wife furrowed her eyebrows.

“Why do we need six weeks to prep this car?”

She was referring to our Toyota Yaris, a rally car with a manual transmission. I had spent the last several months researching routes and diligently shopping for the perfect specimen to hustle through the Mongol Rally; from London to Mongolia. The Mongol Rally was “motoring stupidity on a global scale”. Drive something shitty and small and do it on your own. Our car, a piercing gold 1999 Toyota Yaris, was not typically used to trek across deserts and mountain terrains. I bought it for GBP 800 ($1100 USD) and it was right hand drive.
